I was in my first housing job, 20 years old, and Roy was this life force that roped me into his campaign to house homeless families into empty houses waiting on demolition. Often referred to as squatting! I've never forgotten him or the lessons he taught me and I often think of him even though many years have passed. Upon my return I learned of the most tragic suicide of Robin Williams. My French family, which I have had the pleasure of getting to know, is absolutely amazed at the warmth of Americans. My cousin reminds me again and again about French culture and how I should keep to myself. But another American I know that has made France his home for 22 years, has built a home and did not put up the typical "French Fence" to keep everyone out. After two years he was starting to erect the fence and his neighbors asked him not to. They enjoyed walking by and having their little chats. I plan on making France my home in a couple of years in my retirement and making ministry my hobby. Most of the fine folks reading this will surely think "oh crap, another Bible thumping Evangelist!!" That's OK, I'm quite prepared for the criticism and ridicule. But this I know, all the time honored methods for depression are failing here in the U.S as well as in France. I don't plan on shoving anything down anyones throat or trying to change their culture, I just want them to have "hope". After 40 years of living in dark anger because of circumstances in my life, I have found peace and hope that transcends anything that drugs or counseling fails. If I can share that with one person, to God be the glory. My war is against despair and the darkness that covers France. My weapon is the Love of Christ. This is because tourists just don't know how to walk in NYC. They walk way too slowly and stop in the middle of the sidewalk to talk or to look and point. New Yorkers use the sidewalks for transportation - foot transportation! So do what you'd do on the road - pull off to the side if you want to talk! Don't stand in the middle of the sidewalk! I agree with him and this mess has been on the cards for over thirty years now. What amazes me is how long it took people to realise it, hence the fact that things are getting even worse. Oh well, it'll all come out in the wash of history.....

And I fully understand why this gentleman can't wait to get out of France and back to the USA. You can't imagine how gloomy and depressing France seems to French people who live abroad and have to come back for some reason. I get the impression that most of them are pleased they moved abroad and pleased to get back out there when their business is done.

On that subject, I was considering writing about the large increase in French graduates who are fleeing the country. I surely will sometime soon.

Hope all is well over in your sunny place and have a great afternoon.Fripouillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14321346986665375480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8435065948620169670.post-40517894806551774342014-04-23T09:29:35.901-07:002014-04-23T09:29:35.901-07:00Not being there and not reading much about politic...Not being there and not reading much about politics except through few words on blogs, I can't really see clearly what is going on but I have to say that I miss France for its beautiful regions and landscape, history… but this modern France with so many problems, I do not know and do not like. I ran into a woman who married a french man, yesterday. They are separated and did not divorce so the "husband" can be covered through her Motion Picture health insurance. He moved back to France only 2 or 3 years ago and cannot stand it. He is 63 years old and will stay in France until his sick 91 year old mother dies and caring for relatives also needing his attention but he will come back to the US when the dust settles. I am not sure what the future will hold for France, Europe or all western countries but have you read Thomas Picketty's book "capital"? He is an economist and his book gives you an insight of what has happened and why… For a book on economy, it is pretty easy to read.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06031276247743743680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8435065948620169670.post-90680056269764645602014-04-21T11:53:37.829-07:002014-04-21T11:53:37.829-07:00How can you be happy in a country of crooks, liars...How can you be happy in a country of crooks, liars and cheats? 15 years here and they are truly despicable to be around.
