Life can be a bitch, sure. And so can death....

A guy in Marseille killed himself today. His wife, who is said to be a psychiatric patient, was driving her husband to hospital because he was having a psychotic episode when he got out of the car and threw himself under a bus. The driver managed to stop in time to save his life but the man got up and ripped one of his eyes out, and then the other one. Police on the scene tried to control him but he ran away and fell over a fence and impaled himself. Then he died.

I knew a woman once. She tried to kill herself at home with an overdose but was saved by the coincidence of a relative arriving. She tried again a while after and was taken to hospital, where she was given tranquillisers and subsequently left alone. So she got up, went to the empty room next door, and hung herself on the belt of a dressing gown.

They say life's a bitch sometimes. Sure, it is. But whatever the trials and tribulations and bonheurs and torments of my life, I sure wouldn't want to die with such a desperate urge to do so.....

  1. I just read the article in "Midi libre". This is beyond comprehension; unless someone is doing heavy duty drugs, how is it possible to rip your eyes out?
I am glad this guy is out of his misery and is not a burden on society!
Yes life is a bitch sometimes. Ask destitute people living in Haiti or some poor african nation.
Mental illnesses are real of course and I am sorry for anybody who has to deal with them, but I have known enough people who committed suicide to know that they didn't have to die, they didn't have to be so unhappy in their gold cages. I am not glad they killed themselves and am actually angry.

    1. Yeah, this life has winners and losers, but you know, at the end of the day it isn't about what we do or do not have, it's about how we handle it all. Some people can't. Rich or poor.....

  2. I was telling a friend about this horrifying story and we both wondered what doctors... are going to say about it. I hope I won't have nightmares tonight.

  3. Good grief, what a terrible story! The poor guy, he must have been incredibly sick to put himself through that. A psychotic episode? More like a psychotic explosion!

    1. What worries me is not so much the event itself, but the fact that suicide rates in France are rising sharply, and this in a country which already has abnormally high rates of suicide. I can see that from press reports. But there is no official comment on it all...
